How long have you been a Patent Attorney?
I’ve been with Pure Ideas since May 2017, but I’ve been an attorney since 1985.

What attracted you to the profession?
When I first started out, I knew I wanted to be involved in engineering and science, but I didn’t want to work in a lab. I do like a good argument! I like the idea of people having legalistic arguments without people ending up with broken noses. So, it was a combination of skills that seemed perfect for me, and the interviewer thought so too.

What are you most passionate about in your role?
I like giving value for money, practical advice, and protecting investment at all levels.

What advice would you give people looking to protect their IP?
Always take advice because it’s surprising what you can protect.

What does your team say about you?

“Kevin is a great member of the Pure Ideas team. He always has a different and interesting view on things, which is refreshing.”

What are your interests outside work?
I try and write novels but they’re not all that good, so nobody reads them – because I don’t let them! I like golf, taking the dog for a walk, and archery – but I’m at the stage where the safest place to be is in front of the target!

Tell us a fact that none of your work colleagues knows.
I was nearly blown up in Barcelona in the early 1990s. I was about five minutes away when a car bomb went off outside a police station!
