How long have you been in your profession?
Around 20 years. Working within both private practice and in-house teams.
What attracted you to the profession?
The variation of clients and uniqueness and often unusualness of trade marks you can come across. My first introduction to IP was working on the Harrods and Monkey Worlds IP portfolios which were fascinating in their own ways. Luxury and monkeys!
What are you most passionate about in your role?
I like being able to see a trade mark from start to finish – from the client’s initial ideas to full protection and registration of their Trade Mark.
What advice would you give people who are looking to protect their IP?
Making sure their Trade Mark is as unique and distinctive as possible.
Ensuring that they apply for all of the goods and services desired for use, by that Trade Mark, both now and in the foreseeable future – to ensure they achieve full protection rights.
What does your team say about you?
“Emily has slotted into the team effortlessly and with her experience and knowledge of trademarks has made her a great addition to the Pure Ideas team!”
What are your interests outside work?
Growing cut flowers, gardening, films, long dog walks with my family, cold sea swims when I’m feeling brave and eating good food!
Tell us a fact that none of your work colleagues knows.
I rode the ‘Lord of the Rings’ horse ride experience in New Zealand during possibly the worst thunderstorm. My horse bolted and charged through the river and woods at flat-out speed, needless to say, my life flashed before my eyes!
